Signing Authority & Resolutions

The University Act (s27) gives the Board of Governors the following powers with respect to signing authority:

  • To appoint a secretary and committees it considers necessary to carry out the Board’s functions, including joint committees with the Senate, and to confer on the committees power and authority to act for the Board; and,
  • To enter into agreements on behalf of the University.

Signing Resolutions designate and authorize by resolution an officer or officers of the University to sign legally binding documents on behalf of the University.  The UBC University Counsel maintains a PDF collection of UBC Signing Resolutions, provided for information only.

The Board of Governors Secretariat is the official copy holder for files of the Board of Governors, including Signing Resolutions.

To obtain an official copy of a Signing Resolution, please submit a written request.
