I would like to acknowledge that UBC’s Vancouver campus is situated on the traditional, ancestral, unceded territory of the Musqueam people, and that UBC’s Okanagan campus is situated on the traditional, ancestral, unceded territory of the Syilx Okanagan Nation. Board members and others are joining us remotely from many places near and far, and I’d like to acknowledge the traditional owners and caretakers of those lands as well.
I would like to welcome our three newest Board members to their first meeting. Eshana Bhangu and Kareem Hassib were elected to the Board by the students of the Vancouver campus for a one-year term, which began on April 1. Isabella Bravo was elected by the students of the Okanagan Campus, and she joined the Board as of April 13. Welcome Eshana, Isabella and Kareem, we look forward to working with you!
The main item on our agenda today is the consideration of the 2023-2024 Budget.
As I mentioned in my remarks at the March 31 Board meeting, UBC administrators had requested extra time to revise the draft 2023-2024 budget following discussions during the Finance Committee’s closed session on March 22. The Finance Committee met earlier this week to consider the revised budget, and is recommending the Board’s approval of that revised budget today.
I wanted to once again extend the Board’s appreciation to the Administration for all of their hard work in preparing the draft budget, as well as their responsiveness to the discussions held at the Finance Committee in turning around the revised budget so quickly. Thank you all so much.
