I am pleased to announce that Ms. Miranda Lam, K.C., has been appointed as Chair of the UBC Board of Governors, effective August 1, 2024.
Ms. Lam has served on the Board since February 2022 and has been Board Vice-Chair since June 2023. She is the Chief Legal Officer and Vice President, Business Development at Acuitas Therapeutics, Inc., and has a long history of board service, including having previously chaired the boards of the Vancouver Foundation, alumni UBC, and Vantage Point, and serving on the boards of the United Way and Imagine Canada. She is currently the chair of the BC Cancer Foundation, and is a member of the board of directors of the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade.
Formerly an equity partner in the litigation group at national law firm, McCarthy Tétrault, Ms. Lam has been recognized as a Leading Lawyer in Commercial Litigation by various independent publications, and was previously named to Vancouver Magazine’s Power 50 List of the City’s Most Influential People. In 2023, Miranda was recognized by YWCA Vancouver as a Woman of Distinction in the “Business & Professions” category.
Ms. Lam takes over the role from Mr. William Sundhu, who has served as Interim Board Chair since January 2024. On behalf of the university, I would like to thank Mr. Sundhu for his leadership.
