Canadian University Comparators

The University of British Columbia is consistently ranked among the 40 best universities (and among the top 20 public universities) in the world.

As such, UBC seeks to retain and attract the best senior administrators by remaining competitive in its compensation practices with other large research-intensive universities represented by the U15 (leading research-intensive universities in Canada), and in particular the University of Toronto and the University of Alberta, and with the global market for senior administrator talent generally.

Because every jurisdiction reports their executive compensation in a different way, it is sometimes difficult to get a true apples-to-apples comparison.

The University of Alberta reports compensation to their President in notes to their financial statements.   

For 2019-2020, the President’s annual base salary was reported as $500,000, totaling $960,000 with the addition of other non-cash benefits.

University of Calgary

The University of Calgary reports their President’s compensation in notes to their financial statements.

For 2019-2020, the President’s annual base salary was reported as $447,000, totaling $648,000 with the addition of other non-cash benefits.
