Mx. Jasper Lorien is a political science student at UBC Vancouver.
Jasper served on the UBC Vancouver Senate, holding several leadership positions, including as co-chair of the Senate Student Caucus. They also served for two years in the UBC Disabilities United Collective, as both Vice-President Academic & University Affairs and Co-President, working with UBC Vancouver’s administration and student leadership to improve the lives of thousands of students with disabilities at UBC. Jasper also sat on several President’s Advisory committees, the Faculty of Arts Strategic Plan Committee, and other university bodies, ensuring that student interests were represented at all tables.
Additionally, they are an elected representative on the Board of Directors of the UBC Alma Mater Society and the Arts Undergraduate Society Council, and led the AUS’s Governance Committee through a full-scale governance review to improve the operations, structure, and accountability mechanisms of one of Canada’s largest undergraduate societies. In their tenure, Jasper successfully advocated to secure hundreds of thousands of dollars for students, including undergraduate research and accessibility initiatives, pushed for policy changes, increased student representation in key decision-making bodies, and more.
