Mr. Kamil Kanji is a fourth-year honours political science with international relations student.
Kamil has served the UBC Alma Mater Society (AMS) – the student society representing all 60,000+ UBC Vancouver students – as Vice-President Academic & University Affairs, Acting AMS President, Strategy & Governance Lead in the office of the President, and a member of the AMS Board. During his time on the UBC Vancouver Senate, Kamil has chaired the Budget Subcommittee and the Agenda Committee, and served as Vice-Chair of the Vancouver Senate, successfully working with UBC Administration to secure millions of dollars toward student-centered priorities including mental-health supports provided by the AMS and UBC, food-security initiatives, career-development services, accessibility programs, open education, undergraduate research, and more.
At the AMS, Kamil supported in developing the organization’s first five-year strategic plan, implemented long-lasting governance changes, facilitated the transition of new senior management teams, led the strategy for organizational change concerning difficult units, and
worked with his fellow Executives to convert the organizations $700,000 deficit into a surplus in just one year.
Kamil has also worked as a C-Suite executive of a technology startup, founded advisory boards within organizations like Rotary International to serve over 350,000+ young people around the world, served as an advisor to various non-profit Boards including Children First Canada, and appeared before United Nations and Senate of Canada Committees as a youth expert.
