Shola Fashanu

Ms. Shola Fashanu is pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Applied Science (with a specialization in Mechanical Engineering) at UBC’s Okanagan campus. She is serving her second term on the Board of Governors, having served previously during her second year at UBC.

Active in the UBC Community as a student athlete and student leader, Shola has worked as a co-op student in both the African Tech Sector and the Canadian Energy Sector.  She has been a team member of UBC Okanagan’s Heat cross country squad, and spent several years serving on the Engineering Society at UBC, notably holding the position of Vice-President.

Shola is a dedicated advocate for diversity and inclusivity, particularly in the field of engineering.  Beginning in her first year at UBC, Shola volunteered as a panellist, presenter, organizer, and mentor for various events geared towards introducing and engaging young girls in the field of engineering.  In addition, she has served as vice-president and two-time president of UBC Okanagan’s Women in Engineering, a club that aims to promote and support female students in the faculty.

Shola currently serves on the UBC Faculty of Applied Science Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Advisory Committee and the Black Community Network Leadership Committee at her co-op.
