Dr. Philipp Reichert

Dr. Philipp Reichert has been connected to UBC Okanagan for nearly 20 years, first as an undergraduate student and returning in 2012 as a staff member. He currently serves as Director of the Global Engagement office at UBC Okanagan. Philipp also works nationally as a Senior Advisor, Learning and Development with the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE), where he has led the creation and implementation a number of new training initiatives for the sector over the past decade. Before joining UBC, Philipp worked with the Rotterdam School of Management on International and Executive MBA programs and with The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies in the Netherlands.

Philipp holds a doctorate from the University of Calgary where his research focused on the internationalization of higher education and international student career transitions. He completed a Master’s degree with honours at Leiden University as a Nuffic Huygens Scholar and is a licensed RCIC in Canadian immigration law.

He is deeply involved in international education leadership at the local, provincial, national, and global levels, contributing to CBIE, NAFSA, AIEA, DAAD, and the Central Okanagan Local Immigration Partnership (COLIP). He previously co-chaired CBIE’s National Immigration Advisory Committee during the COVID 19 period and continues to support cross sector work in policy, compliance, IRCC engagement, and student pathways. Recent initiatives include new programming for the Government of Saskatchewan, EduNova, Wayble, and other groups across Canada.

In addition to this work at UBC, Philipp serves on the Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA), Board of Directors, chairs the Audit Committee, co leads the Strategic Services Task Force, and contributes to global leadership development and partnership models. He is widely recognized as a subject matter expert and frequent speaker on immigration policy, global mobility, and institutional strategy. In 2025, he was named to The PIE News 50 Voices, Americas Edition, which highlights impactful leaders across the region.

His work has been recognized with the CBIE North Star Award in 2016, the UBC Okanagan Staff Award of Excellence for Global Citizenship in 2020, the AIEA Harold Josephson Award in 2021, Top 40 Under 40 in the Okanagan in 2022, and appointment as an AIEA Presidential Fellow in 2022 and 2023. Philipp continues to mentor emerging professionals and remains committed to advancing equity, inclusion, newcomer support, and international student success across the Okanagan, Canada, and globally.
