Matthew Tan

Mr. Matthew Tan has spent over 20 years at UBC, first as a student, then alumnus, staff, as a Senator and now as a Governor. He is currently the Associate Director, Partnerships, at UBC Athletics & Recreation.

Matthew’s work has resulted in partnerships with well over a hundred different organizations and companies on behalf of UBC, generating tens of millions of dollars for the university and helping to elevate its brand and standing through major events and milestones. He has led successful comprehensive partnerships across the university and both campuses, and has worked with stakeholders from every university portfolio.

Matthew holds a Bachelor of Science from UBC and certificates from the UBC Sauder School of Business, ICD-Rotman, and Harvard Business School. He is passionate about current events, giving back, and mentoring young alumni and UBC students while at the same time being inspired by them.

A long-time Board member with GRACE (the Global Resource for Advancing Cancer Education), with cancer having impacted many in his family and friend circles, he is at present also their Vice-President. Additionally, he serves on the BC Cancer Foundation’s Vancouver Technology Transformation Council, after having served on their Beyond Belief Campaign Cabinet which helped raise $529.6 million dollars to transform cancer research and care in B.C.
